Pelvic, Bladder, or Bowel Pain

Compassionate, Specialized Care to Relieve Discomfort and Restore Confidence

Understanding Pelvic Pain

Pelvic, bladder, or bowel pain is often complex and can significantly affect daily life. These symptoms are frequently linked to pelvic floor muscle dysfunction—where muscles become overactive, tight, weak, or uncoordinated, disrupting normal bladder, bowel, and sexual function.

These symptoms are often misdiagnosed or under-treated—but with the right support, many patients experience meaningful relief.

Pelvic floor dysfunction can present in many different ways, including:

Bladder Pain

Bladder pain may present as burning, deep pelvic pressure, or a constant sensation of urgency, even when the bladder is empty. Many individuals describe it as a persistent ache or irritation that disrupts daily routines.

Chronic bladder discomfort, pressure, or urgency may be signs of conditions such as interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome. Pelvic floor therapy can help by calming irritated tissues, releasing muscle tension, and retraining bladder habits for lasting relief.

Rectal or Bowel Pain

Rectal or bowel pain can include sharp discomfort with bowel urges or during bowel movements, lingering pelvic pressure afterward, or a sensation of incomplete emptying. Symptoms often interfere with sitting, toileting, and overall comfort.
Pain with bowel movements or rectal pressure can stem from muscle dysfunction, nerve irritation, or post-surgical scarring. We address these issues through gentle manual therapy, coordination training, and strategies to restore pain-free bowel function.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Pain

This type of pain may feel like deep, aching tension in the pelvic floor, hips, or lower abdomen. It often involves tight, reactive muscles that contribute to discomfort with movement, posture, or prolonged sitting.
When the pelvic floor muscles are tight, overactive, or uncoordinated, they can cause deep, aching pain or sharp spasms. Our therapists assess and treat the root cause—helping to restore balance, improve mobility, and reduce sensitivity.

Vulvar or Vaginal Pain

Vulvar or vaginal pain may feel like burning, stinging, or rawness with light touch, intimacy, or prolonged sitting. Sensitivity may be constant or triggered by specific activities, clothing, or hormonal changes.
Pain with touch, intimacy, or even clothing can be linked to conditions such as vaginismus, vulvodynia, or hormonal changes. Pelvic floor therapy gently improves tissue health and supports nervous system regulation for relief.

Tailbone (Coccyx) Pain

Tailbone pain typically feels like a dull ache or sharp discomfort at the base of the spine, aggravated by sitting, leaning back, or transitioning between positions. It may also feel bruised, stuck, or inflamed.
Coccyx pain often results from injury, poor posture, or muscle tension pulling on the tailbone. We use hands-on techniques, posture retraining, and movement strategies to reduce strain and help you sit and move without pain.

From Our Patients:

You won’t regret it.

After taking many month-long courses of antibiotics and not seeing much improvement, I knew it was time to pursue alternative treatment options. I can safely say the world-class care I received at Pelvic Health Solutions has changed my life.

Pelvic Health Solutions changed my life! I was suffering from debilitating bladder spasms that crippled me for over a half hour at a time, several times a day. My life was stuck at home and staying close to restrooms. After just 2 months of sessions, I am rid of those dreaded spasms and now have the tools to control them should they decide to rear their ugly head again.

I was advised to start pelvic floor physical therapy prior to my prostatectomy. I did this for 2 months prior to surgery – and my recovery from surgery could not have been better. I had no incontinence and minimal sexual function changes. The exercises took minimal time and effort, yet I’m convinced they made all the difference to my rapid surgical recovery. I can not imagine recovering as well as I did without Pelvic Health Solutions.

My Urologist had been urging me to try Pelvic PT to help me have a more sensible life. I had never heard of PT for the pelvic area, but my situation was interfering with the quality of my life. The team at Pelvic Health Solutions are professionals who understand the challenges of erratic urinary problems and my therapist was outstanding with her knowledge, patience with me, and encouragement as I progressed. I highly recommend Pelvic Health Solutions.

I have a long history of endometriosis to include laparoscopic surgery, IVF and C-section. At my annual checkup earlier this year my ob-gyn referred me for pelvic floor physical therapy. I am a physical therapist and have practiced outpatient orthopedics for many years but definitely needed the help of a skilled provider. Many women suffer with pain, bowel or bladder problems and don’t realize that pelvic floor physical therapy can help. Gaining a sense of control over a frustrating and often times debilitating condition is life changing.

After years of being told my pain and cramping was related to my bladder, I decided to choose a different route. I made an appointment with a urogynecologist and she referred me to Pelvic Health Solutions. I was pretty skeptical that this would work, as I had never heard of this type of physical therapy before. I had six once a week P. T. appointments where I learned to breathe correctly and do exercises that would release the cramping in my pelvic floor. I began to feel better after two! My experience was outstanding.

Frequently Asked

Many patients come to us after feeling rushed, overlooked, or given a one-size-fits-all plan elsewhere. Exceptional pelvic health care requires time, expertise, and individualized attention—conditions that traditional insurance models simply don’t allow.

Our out-of-network structure is intentional. It allows us to deliver the level of care you deserve.

Patients often find that investing in specialized, expert-led care leads to faster, more meaningful improvement—and ultimately reduces the time, cost, and frustration spent on ineffective or fragmented treatments.

At Pelvic Health Solutions, you receive care designed around you: private, precise, and rooted in clinical excellence.

Pelvic health physical therapy is a specialized area of physical therapy that focuses on assessing and treating conditions related to the pelvic floor muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues. The pelvic floor plays a crucial role in supporting the pelvic organs, controlling bladder and bowel function, and contributing to sexual health.

Pelvic health physical therapy focuses on the muscles, tissues, and organs specifically in the pelvic area, which include the bladder and bowel. It helps with problems like pelvic pain, urinary or bowel issues, and discomfort during sex.

Orthopedic physical therapy, on the other hand, deals with muscles and joints in other parts of the body, like the arms, legs, and back, to help with pain, stiffness, and injuries in those areas.

elvic floor physical therapy applies to individuals with a range of symptoms. Some of the most common ones we see are:

Pelvic Pain: Chronic pelvic pain, pain during intercourse (dyspareunia), tailbone pain, or pain in the pelvic region with movement, sitting, or pressure.

Urinary Symptoms: Urinary incontinence (leakage of urine), urinary urgency or frequency, difficulty emptying the bladder, or nocturia (excessive nighttime urination).

Bowel Symptoms: Fecal incontinence (involuntary leakage of stool or gas), constipation, rectal pain/spasms, or difficulty with bowel movements.

Pregnancy and Postpartum: Pelvic health physical therapy can help prepare the pelvic floor for childbirth and address postpartum issues such as pelvic organ prolapse, perineal pain, or diastasis recti.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Descending or bulging of pelvic organs (such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum) into the vaginal canal.

Male Pelvic Conditions: Chronic pelvic pain in men, chronic prostatitis, and post-prostatectomy

If you’re considering scheduling your first visit, here’s what you can expect during the initial evaluation:

A comprehensive and respectful conversation
We begin by listening. All appointments are one-on-one with a dedicated pelvic floor physical therapist, in a private treatment room, for a full hour.

In your first session, your therapist will conduct a detailed medical and lifestyle history to better understand your symptoms, goals, and day-to-day function. Topics may include bladder, bowel, and sexual health—always discussed with care, professionalism, and respect for your comfort.

Clinical education tailored to you
You’ll receive clear, expert guidance on how the pelvic floor works, what may be contributing to your symptoms, and how physical therapy can help. Research shows that patients who understand their conditions have better outcomes. We prioritize education, and not just exercises, in your care so that you understand the why and how of your symptoms.

A thorough assessment
We assess posture, movement patterns, core stability, hip strength, breathing, and pelvic alignment. With your consent, we may offer an external and internal pelvic floor exam to assess strength, tone, and coordination. This is always optional and based on your comfort.

A personalized treatment plan
Before the session ends, your therapist will walk you through their findings and recommend a tailored and individualized plan for therapy — outlining what care may look like in the weeks ahead.

Our care model is centered around one-on-one treatment, clinical excellence, and compassionate support. We’re referred by over 100 doctors and have helped more than 5000 patients restore function, reduce symptoms, and feel confident in their bodies again.

Don’t struggle with your symptoms alone. Reach out to speak with one of our pelvic floor physical therapists.

Just like other therapies, it takes time and consistency to notice improvement. Healing time varies for each person. Some people might start feeling better after a few sessions, while others might need more time. It depends on how severe your symptoms are and how well you stick to your treatment plan.

Typically, we see our patients 1-2 times per week in order to make the most optimal recovery. Your therapist will work with you to create a plan that fits your needs and that helps you feel better as soon as possible!

The road to healing is not linear and having a compassionate “coach” to guide you through the rough patches is honestly one of the biggest benefits of coming here.

No one wants to have or even talk about issues “down there”, but I firmly urge any man struggling with their pelvic floor health to seek treatment and start your healing journey. You won’t regret it.
